Are you someone who has the passion to promote the voices of young people and ensure they are heard? Are you someone who can develop, co-ordinate and contribute to the delivery of youth voice across the North Yorkshire area?

We are looking for a Youth Voice and Creative Engagement Officer to join our successful Children and Young People’s Services Department. As an Engagement Officer you will be responsible for ensuring that our children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, are encouraged and supported to engage with youth voice opportunities, and have a genuine say in the services we deliver as a local authority.

You will be passionate about youth voice and participation work, and have a proven track record of using creative, arts based approaches to engage with children and young people in a way that is both interesting and meaningful to them. The work of our team links closely with our effective practice and quality assurance framework, therefore the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and produce professional, actionable reports will also be essential qualities for the successful candidate.

This is a part time role for 28 hours per week. The successful candidate will be based in the Hambleton and Richmondshire, part of the Central Area of North Yorkshire, but travel around the county area will be required, as will some weekend and evening working. The post holder will be expected to work with a degree of autonomy, managing their own diary and workload, with a blend of home, office, and community setting based work to be completed flexibly dependent on commitments.

Our Children & Young People’s Service has a reputation of delivering high quality services and our Children’s Services are nationally recognised for their excellence, taking a national lead to share best practice. Our recent Ofsted rating judged us as ‘Outstanding’ across all provisions. We also have a good story to tell when it comes to value for money, service delivery and impact in the communities of North Yorkshire we serve.

We are passionate, ambitious and driven about the future of our services. However, there is always room to do even better for young people in North Yorkshire. We are truly a learning organisation that continually seeks to innovate and finely tune the system with an unwavering desire to continually improve.

At North Yorkshire Council we value our employees, offering a generous leave entitlement with bank holidays as an addition. Our Local Government pension package is significantly more than standard plans and our Everybody Benefits offers a wide range of money saving discounts on holidays, experience days, cinemas, family offers and DIY. We have salary sacrifice on technology and green car schemes, a fantastic Employee Assistance Programme which provides resources, factsheets and advice for healthy living as well as advice for your financial wellbeing.

If you think you have the drive and passion to make young people’s voices heard in North Yorkshire, then please contact Nicki Watkinson, Strategic Manager, on 07974 179011 for an informal conversation about the role, alternatively email
nicki.watkinson@northyorks.gov.uk with any queries.
