- £20.82 per hour, plus standby payment up to £216 per week
- Seasonal Contract, with variable hours dependant on conditions
- Area 5 – Skipton, North Yorkshire BD23 2QR
Can you see yourself as part of the winter maintenance service that North Yorkshire provides? Fancy taking responsibility for operating and maintaining a Gritter to ensure roads are made safer for residents and visitors of North Yorkshire during adverse conditions?
Join our Winter Maintenance Team here at NY Highways and make a real impact this winter for the communities of North Yorkshire.
This role is crucial through our cold months, to keep the county’s roads open and safe. Our service starts with changing conditions, typically October to April, requiring around the clock efforts to maintain our large road network.
This temporary winter position might be perfect if you’re looking to fit work around other commitments. Many of our casual drivers return annually, finding the role rewarding and flexible.
You will serve a vital purpose in keeping residents safe and ensuring they can access work, school and healthcare, as well as supporting our emergency services to keep us all safe.
Working with weather is unpredictable, so you'll follow standby rotas as shown, where standby payments cover the listed times, but actual working hours will often extend beyond them:
· Weekday Morning (Midnight to 7.30am, Monday to Friday)
· Weekday Evening (4.00pm to Midnight, Monday to Friday)
· Weekend (24 hours, both Saturday and Sunday, AM and PM)
We value diversity and strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment. If you share our commitment to excellence, teamwork and continuous improvement, we would like to hear from you. We will offer support, development and training to ensure you are well equipped, safe and confident in this role.
It is essential you have the following:
· Class 2 Drivers Licence (Category C)
· Current Driver CPC
· Digi-Tachograph Card
It would be desirable if you have the winter 6159 certification for driving a gritting vehicle, however if not you must be willing to attend training to obtain this.
What we can offer you
· A Competitive Hourly Rate of £20.82 per hour
· Standby payments calculated at £24 per shift, totalling £120 per week for weekday mornings and up to £216 for combined weekday evenings and weekends.
· Accrued Annual Leave for time worked
· Training on a City and Guilds Winter Maintenance Certification (Units Specific)
