Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire.
Salary: From £37,035 to £41,511 per annum
Grade: JK
Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full time, 37 Hours per week
The successful candidate can be based at any of the North Yorkshire Council offices. Hybrid working available.

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Affordable Housing Development Advisor to join our Housing Partnerships and Delivery Service. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, affordable housing across our diverse communities.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Advising on planning applications, Section 106 agreements, and strategic housing developments.
- Collaborating with Planning Policy teams on local plans and housing evidence bases.
- Monitoring affordable housing schemes and ensuring these schemes are compliant.
- Contribute to cross-service working groups, testing the impacts of policy proposals on affordable housing objectives
- Working with our Housing Association Partners, attending regular meetings to discuss the pipeline of sites and coordinating new Development Forums
- Keep up to date with emerging trends, policies and best practice in affordable housing development, incorporating these into the team’s approach.
What We’re Looking For:
- Strong knowledge of affordable housing policies and UK planning law.
- Experience negotiating with developers and planning officers.
- Someone who takes responsibility and produces a range of solutions to problems
- Ability to travel across North Yorkshire.
- Degree or equivalent qualification and evidence of continued professional development.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills are a must, as you will be working with a wide range of partners and project teams, which will require collaborative working.
