Are you an experienced Deputy Headteacher, or senior leader interested in headship? Are you currently, or do you have extensive experience of successfully working with students with special educational needs?
Our Opportunity
We are looking for a visionary senior leader to join our thriving, busy school and to provide strategic support during a very exciting period of growth and rapid development. Our main building, the House, is undergoing significant refurbishment with a £6.2m investment by the local authority. It will reopen in September 2025, with plans to create 12 places for residential children, for 38 weeks per year. The local authority are working with us to expand our school numbers and create new provision when the House reopens.
This job-share is a brand-new post and key to the future strategic direction of our school. The current Headteacher is reducing her hours to 0.8FTE, to be able to focus on the building developments and this 0.2 FTE post creates an exciting opportunity for those interested in co-leading the school over the next few years through its expansion project. The initial contract is for one year, but may be extended dependent on the development of the building works at the House.
About us:
Welburn Hall is a vibrant special school/college for children and young people aged 8 to 19 years with a wide range of special educational needs. The needs of our pupils can be complex and we are committed to ensuring our environment enables all to flourish and develop as happy, independent individuals, giving them the very best start to adult life.

With dedicated staff, fantastic facilities and beautiful buildings, we create a calm and inspiring place to learn, live and work.
About you:
You will be an outstanding teacher with substantial senior leader experience and a proven track record of whole school change management. Ideally you will currently work in a special school but relevant experience in other settings will be considered, providing you have a sound understanding of special education.
You will be working closely alongside the 0.8 Headteacher, co-leading the school and managing the staff. Ideally you will already have experience in school improvement and development planning, with a strong ability to inspire and co-lead your team.
Our wonderful children need someone who will be dedicated to ensuring that they reach their full academic potential, someone with a strongly positive mindset and most of all, a great sense of humour!
In return we can promise you a truly unique school in a stunning setting, an excellent staff and the ambition to continually improve our provision.
