The Opportunity
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is seeking to appoint a Strategy and Policy Officer.
This is an exciting time to join the Combined Authority, as the organisation begins to explore Established status and deeper devolution. You would be joining a growing team that is setting the strategic priorities for the Economy Directorate and responsible for strong collaboration internally, across various government departments and externally with a range of key partners (including two Local Authorities).
Within the role, you will be responsible for supporting the production of key strategies, plans and policies such as the Local Growth Plan and Spatial Development Strategy and manage the alignment of these to the Mayor’s vision. You will support in the translation of strategic documents into tangible delivery and explore mechanisms to enable this, such as national policy and further devolution, and various funding levers, such as the Mayoral Investment Fund. Strong partnership working will be critical to the role and you will ensure all activity is developed through collaboration and that an evidence led approach is taken. You will also have the opportunity to lead on specific projects, research and policies.
What you will bring
· Good understanding and experience of how to develop economic strategies, policies and investment plans collaboratively.
· Good understanding of local, regional and national economic strategy, policy and legislation.
· Experience of working with a range of stakeholders, managing conflicting views and influencing across a variety of seniority levels.
· Good understanding of economic data, research and analysis.
· Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team and ability to use various sources of evidence and data to reach conclusions.
· Significant knowledge of programme and project management methodologies.
· Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
· Experience of working within the public sector is desirable but not necessary if you have an understanding and experience across the other areas listed.
