Work Experience - Mercer Art Gallery

Year 12 Work Experience - Mercer Art Gallery

Want a chance to discover behind the scenes at our art galleries and museums? Looking to pursue a career in the arts?

The Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate are currently taking applications for our work experience week!

The experience will take place from 29th June to 3rd July 2026.

What is the project?

This work experience week will provide the opportunity for a small group of Year 12 students to spend time with both our Museum and Galleries Team and industry freelancers, who will share their experience of working across The Mercer Art Gallery, North Yorkshire Council collections and the wider arts sector.

You will have the chance to learn about everything from exhibitions making & collections care, to audience learning, and artist careers.

You will also have the opportunity to offer valuable input and participate in the direction of North Yorkshire Council Museums; producing your own display or learning resource in response to the upcoming Mercer exhibition ‘Aesthetica Art Prize 20: Defining the Future of Contemporary Art’.

Aims

To inspire local young people interested in careers in the arts and cultural sector and help them develop their understanding and skills.

To engage students directly with the upcoming exhibitions.

To develop and produce a resource for use with our audiences.

To develop a collaboration between the gallery and a group of local young people, to help inform future projects engaging with younger audiences.
