The Streetworks Department has an exciting new opening in the service for a Technical Assistant. The role is career graded depending on experience and will support the team of Network Co-ordinators to perform key administrative tasks in line with the Highways Act 1980 and associated codes of practise.
The Role:
As a Technical Assistant within our networks team, you will ensure that all requests for network information, applications to work in the Highway and correspondence, are responded to within the agreed timescales. You will be tasked with ensuring undertakers works within the highway, and the associated permitting/noticing, is compliant with the relevant legislation and/or code of practice. The key tasks include:
- Monitoring and actioning incoming enquiries
- To accept, reject and request modification to permit applications and licences as required or agreed
- To ensure permits/notices/licenses are complete and entered
- Undertake research of service records, liaise with colleagues, interpret findings and communicate with customers with accuracy and clarity ensuring targets are met
- Maintenance and improvement of retained data within statutory and service required databases
- Deal with technical enquiries from internal and external customers
- You may be required to take enforcement action and possibly represent the authority in court
What you will bring:
You will need to be able to work within strict deadlines and have good numeracy, literacy and IT skills (particularly with MS systems). You will also have:
- An awareness and Knowledge of relevant legislation; e.g. New Roads and Street Works, Highways etc
- Awareness of the geography of the County of North Yorkshire
- Ability to read and interpret maps of various quality scale and origin
- Resolve queries using full scope of information.
