This is a great opportunity to join our Medical Education Service (MES). The service helps schools provide continuity in education when a child or young people has been absent from school due to a physical or mental health need.
We are looking to recruit passionate General Teaching Assistant who are eager to play a positive role in a child or young person’s life during what may be a challenging time for them and their family. This is a very rewarding opportunity to be a part of a service which will ensure a child’s education continues despite their medical need and support them to reintegrate back into school when the time is right.
About the role
In this role, you will be responsible for (but not limited to):
· Assisting the MES teachers and HLTAs to support children and young people in small group tuition.
· Working alongside schools, health, parents/carers and other stakeholders to help support the child or young person access education with a specific focus on supporting re-integration to school.
· Developing positive working relationships with children and young people, school, health, parents/carers and any other professionals involved to remove barriers to school attendance.
About you
We are looking for those who not only work well as part of a team but also by themselves and who can build trusting relationships with young people, professionals and families whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries.
You must be able to evidence experience of working with children in a learning context. You will have good literacy, numeracy and interpersonal skills.
You will have a good understanding how physical and mental health needs may impact on curriculum access, social and emotional development.
It is vital that you possess the desire, passion and motivation to work with children and young people and support them to achieve the very best possible outcomes.

They will receive training each school year based on the needs of the MES and also specific training related to individual children’s needs if necessary.

General Teaching Assistant will be based within Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale areas, travel across the county will sometimes be required.
