Expert with Lived Experience Co-Trainer
Salary: £12.60 per hour
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 15 hours across 2 days each month (Totalling 24 days a year)
Location: Roles available in Scarborough and Harrogate
About the Role

We have a brand new job within North Yorkshire Council to be a co-trainer in a training programme. This job is called “expert with lived experience co-trainer”.
About the Training Programme that the Role Supports
The training programme is called the Oliver McGowan training on Learning Disability and Autism.
The Oliver McGowan mandatory training on Learning Disability and Autism was set up after Oliver died in a hospital. Oliver was an autistic person with a learning disability.
His death might have been stopped from happening.
By having someone with the lived experience be the co-trainer, the training aims to help health and social care staff to better understand the needs of people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

- A friendly and positive attitude
- Honesty about your experience
- Be a Champion for Change to help healthcare workers understand the needs of people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
- Share Your Ideas: We value your input! Tell us how we can improve the training.
Key skills
- Be professional, friendly and welcoming to training delegates.
- Be able to speak in front of a group of people you may not know about your experience
- Ability to read, write and use a computer.
- Work together with other trainers to make the training even better.
- Be able to help the trainer identify changes that can be made to provide a better service
If you are successful, you will be provided with full training on how to do the job.

What Happens Next?
Shortlisting:
All applications will be reviewed after the closing date on 13th July 2025. The people shortlisting will look at the questions you have answered on your form. You will be contacted to let you know the outcome of your application and if you are invited for an interview further details will be provided.
Interview:
If you are successfully selected for an interview you will be contacted by us in advance of the interview to let you know. We will phone you or email you using the details you have given on your application form.
We will let you know the date, time and place of the interview that you have been selected for. The interviews will be held on the below key dates, you will only need to attend one.
Interviews will take place in either the Civic Centre Harrogate or Castle House Scarborough.
