About the Role
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for ensuring housing standards are met and exceeded? As a Housing Standards Team Leader, you will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of housing services during a period of significant transformation. This exciting opportunity allows you to make a real difference, ensuring that the Council’s housing assets meet current and future statutory and regulatory requirements.
In this new role, you will lead a locality-based team, providing support and direction to ensure quality, safety, and compliance are upheld. You will be responsible for managing a multi-skilled team within housing contract management, and safety, delivering vital services to circa 8,400 homes and associated properties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Team Management
Lead and motivate a dedicated team of skilled operatives, surveyors, and contract supervisors to ensure the delivery of high-quality housing services. Manage day-to-day operations, performance, and development of staff. - Operational Delivery
Oversee the execution of housing programmes, ensuring work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards. Maintain the highest standards of customer service, responding efficiently to service enquiries and complaints. - Compliance & Reporting
Ensure compliance with housing regulations, building legislation, and health and safety practices. Maintain accurate records to demonstrate compliance and support legal proceedings if required. - Strategic Contribution
Contribute to the development and implementation of the Council’s housing strategy, assisting in continuous service improvements and innovative solutions. Lead on projects, working closely with key stakeholders. - Health & Safety
Ensure the wellbeing, health, and safety of your team, adhering to safety policies and practices. - Financial Management
Oversee budget management, monitor financial processes, and ensure service delivery remains cost-effective and within agreed budgets. - Stakeholder Engagement
Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the Housing Standards Team at meetings and ensuring service goals are met.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- In-depth knowledge of best practices in social housing, tenant safety, and compliance standards.
- Proven experience in managing teams and delivering housing services.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage and resolve issues.
- Experience in budget management, contract management, and process improvement.
- Ability to prioritise workloads effectively and deliver results within deadlines.
- Applicants must be willing and able to travel across the beautiful North Yorkshire as part of the role
Desirable:
- Management qualification or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of asset management and HHSRS accreditation.
- Experience in housing sector or construction site management.
- IOSH qualification and other relevant professional certifications.
