Contract Type: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week, Full Time

Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire

Are you someone who has the passion to promote the voices of young people and ensure they are heard? Are you someone who can develop and co-ordinate the delivery of youth voice across the North Yorkshire area?

We are looking for a Strategic Manager to lead NY Voice, our Youth Voice and Creative Engagement Service, which sits within our successful Children and Young People’s Services Department. You will be responsible for managing a diverse team of Youth Voice and Creative Engagement officers and volunteers, whilst ensuring that our children and young people, especially those from disadvantaged and vulnerable groups, are encouraged and supported to engage with youth voice opportunities; and have a genuine say in the services we deliver as a local authority.

The successful applicant will have significant experience of working with children and young people, be passionate about youth voice and participation work, and have a proven track record of success and delivering high quality work. The team sits within our Effective Practice and Quality Assurance framework, therefore the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and produce professional reports will be essential qualities for the successful candidate; as will a firm understanding of statutory inspection processes. The post holder will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, coordinating with teams across Children and Young People’s Services, and feeding in directly to multiple senior management teams. Please see the attached documents for further information on the range of duties associated with this role.

This is a full-time role for 37 hours per week and will involve a combination of home, office, and community working. The successful candidate will have a base at County Hall, Northallerton, but travel around the county area will be required on a regular basis, as will weekend and evening working.

It is an exciting time in Children and Young Peoples Services in North Yorkshire as we plan our approach in respect of the Families First Partnership Programme and how we will be responding to the social care reforms. Work is underway to plan our approach and implementations for 2027. As a result of this, some realignment may happen with job roles in the future, we want to be transparent about this in respect of this role.

At North Yorkshire Council we value our employees, offering a generous leave entitlement with bank holidays as an addition. Our Local Government pension package is significantly more than standard plans and our Everybody Benefits offers a wide range of money saving discounts on holidays, experience days, cinemas, family offers and DIY. We have salary sacrifice on technology and green car schemes, a fantastic Employee Assistance Programme which provides resources, factsheets and advice for healthy living as well as advice for your financial wellbeing.

If you think you have the drive and passion to make young people’s voices heard in North Yorkshire, then please contact Samantha Clayton, Head of Effective Practice & QA, on 07811665858 for an informal conversation about the role, alternatively email Samantha.clayton@northyorks.gov.uk  with any queries.
