It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Opportunity
York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority are looking for a strategic leader to lead and shape our Business Investment and Innovation Service.
Reporting to the Head of Business Growth and Innovation, you will lead a multi-disciplinary team spanning inward investment, sector development, key account management and investment events. You will ensure a clear, joined-up approach to attracting investment, supporting business growth and strengthening the regional economy.
You will shape and deliver key policies and programmes, using data and insight to inform priorities and future activity. Working closely with local authorities, government, universities and wider partners, you will build strong relationships to coordinate investment and innovation activity across the region.
A key part of the role is supporting devolution opportunities, securing funding, and ensuring alignment with services delivered by City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council. You will also represent the Combined Authority with senior national partners, including UKRI and the Department for Business and Trade.
What you will bring
- Strong understanding of economic development, inward investment, sector growth and business innovation.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience of building effective partnerships across public, private and academic sectors.
- Strong track record of delivering complex programmes and driving change across multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to use data and insight to inform strategy and decision-making.
- Knowledge of economic policy and funding landscapes at local, regional and national levels.
- Experience developing and managing funding bids, investment propositions and budgets.
- Confident communicator, able to present to senior leaders and boards.
