The Opportunity
York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority are looking for a strategic leader to shape and drive our Growth Hub, a critical element of the region’s business growth service.
This role will play a central role in evolving, strengthening and innovating how business support is delivered across the region. Working hand in hand with partners, you will build on existing strengths to further develop the Growth Hub into a more integrated, innovative, high-performing service that responds to the changing needs of businesses.
Reporting to the Head of Business Growth and Innovation, you will lead a dedicated team to support continuous improvement, innovation and consistency in delivery. You will take a strategic view of the current offer, identifying opportunities to enhance quality, increase reach and deliver strong outcomes for businesses.
Working closely with local authorities, government departments, universities and delivery partners, you will build trusted relationships and support a more joined-up, evidence-based approach to business support.
The role will play an important part in supporting devolution opportunities, securing funding and investment, and delivering services aligned with the Government’s Business Growth Strategy and Small Business Strategy. You will also ensure alignment and complementarity with provision delivered by City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council.
What you will bring
- A strong strategic and improvement-focused mindset, with experience of evolving and enhancing services.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to lead teams and support high performance.
- Experience of delivering service improvement or change in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Strong track record of partnership working, with the ability to build trust and collaborate effectively.
- Deep understanding of business growth, SME support and enterprise ecosystems.
- Ability to use data, insight and performance management to support continuous improvement.
- Experience of commissioning, managing or delivering publicly funded business support.
- Knowledge of funding, contracts and delivery requirements linked to government programmes.
- Strong communication skills, with confidence engaging senior stakeholders and presenting proposals.
