The Assistant Harbour Master (Dredging) plays a key role in ensuring that dredging and conservancy at ports within the authority are sounded regularly and kept dredged to the required depth, this not only ensures safety for all vessels but ensures that the port is kept operating to protect commercial interests; all this contributes to the safety of navigation in both ports. 

 

As our Assistant Harbour Master (Dredging) you will be directly responsible to the Harbour Master for all dredging equipment – this includes the excavator dredger ‘Sandsend’. This vessel is operated under the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, as the Master of the vessel, the AHM(D) is responsible for ensuring compliance with all codes and safe working practices as required by the vessel tonnage and the flag state. The AHM(D) acts as the main point of contact for Harbour Users all queries regarding dredging.

 

Your main duties will be to dredge Whitby and Scarborough Harbour and on occasion the vessel will be employed on various contracts around the coast, dredging other ports and harbours. There are allowances for crew when carrying out this work. 

To be successful in this role you will require as a minimum:

  • Master 500t COC   
  • STCW Safety Certificates       
  • ENG1 Medical       
  • Previous vessel handling experience
