Graduate Trainee - Technology (Information, Computer, Technology – ICT)
Location: Hybrid, based at either Harrogate Civic Centre or Northallerton County Hall offices
Contract: 2 years fixed term position as part of the NYC Graduate Programme
Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week
Grade: E-G
Salary: Starting salary of Grade E (SCP 6 £25,183) for 1-6 months, grade F (SCP 9: £26,409) for 6-12 months, and grade G (SCP 13 £28,163) for final year 13-24 months based on satisfactory performance.

As the largest employer in the North Yorkshire county, we are wanting to hire Technology graduates to join our busy team of circa 250 staff. We enable the organisation and its partners to achieve their operational outcomes, driving innovation and efficiency to continually improve ICT services both within the council, and externally to businesses, communities, volunteers, and providing a commercial offering to public and private sector customers. With NYC’s transformation from eight separate local government organisations into one unitary authority in 2023, Technology Services provides a critical role to consolidate, transform by improving and developing our networks, systems, and infrastructure, and provide the best technology solutions possible.

· Utilise your Technology knowledge gained from your studies
· Have a customer centric focus and strong communication and interpersonal skills to be able to engage and influence customer, stakeholders and other parties
· Have an eye for detail and ability to work accurately
· Be able to suggest opportunities for improvement and have a problem solving mindset to find appropriate solutions using qualitative and quantitative data sources involving analysis, forecasting, market trends and insights.
As an established 2 year graduate Technology programme, our team holds a wide wealth of knowledge and experience, to provide you with a sound platform to learn and expand your own skills and experience. You will receive support from a line manager and buddy, from numerous training and development opportunities, and through the overall Corporate Graduate Programme.
The scope of the graduate role will be varied given the busy nature of Technology and you will be responsible for and adept at managing your workload.
Through the graduate programme, you will gain experience working either within a single Technology Service team, or across two of the teams described below to help manage the shaping, defining & delivery of projects:
1. Technology Systems Applications and Development
Key priorities are to consolidate, improve and develop systems and applications to maximise best value and support service transformation, ensuring effective connectivity development with customer and digital. Graduates will therefore support the development and provision of services and be responsible for the effective operation of key IT systems ensuring the highest standards of service.
2. Architecture and Infrastructure
This team work to consolidate, design, implement, and manage ongoing maintenance of the NYC technology infrastructure to provide the essential foundations for overall organisational transformation. The Service Management Office (SMO) and Business Relationship functions together form the core governance, assurance, and communication functions for Technology Services, working collaboratively with stakeholders in understanding customer needs to deliver required outcomes in a timely and planned manner. Graduates will undertake a range of business analysis, research and solution architecture related activities which include following policies and working within strategies, standards, and enterprise architecture principals. They will work closely with others to ensure that all products are ‘fit for purpose’ to meet the desired solution, delivered on time and within budget.
3. Technology Support Services
This team are the first and second-line support service. They support employees either remotely or in person at locality NYC hubs and equally provide a centralised standard response and self-service. They provide a quality care at first point of contact for customers wherever possible and direct timely and personal support both remotely and in person. Graduates will need to be highly customer centric: able to reactive and prioritise requests and customer needs, problem solve effectively and efficiently, and be an effective team player.

Graduates will also be part of the virtual Emerging Technology team to undertake service-related R&D and AI-related projects. This team will focus on leveraging AI and Emerging Technologies to drive innovation and efficiency within the council. Graduates will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, develop and test prototypes, and provide technical and strategic advice for AI initiatives.
Essential criteria for this Graduate opportunity:
· Educated to degree level in an ICT technical qualification, or equivalent technical qualification (e.g. Mathematics, Physics or Engineering) with relevant IT experience or degree content
· Right to work in the UK with the ability to fulfil the whole 2 year graduate programme.
