This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and forward thinking employer as a Junior Paralegal in Legal & Democratic Services (“LDS”) while working towards a Level 3 qualification to develop your legal career.

 

The successful candidate will work alongside a team of Paralegal Officers in Legal and Democratic Services supporting our fee earners on a wide range of legal matters on behalf of North Yorkshire Council.     

 

The successful candidate will be enrolled on a two year apprenticeship programme with an external training provider working towards ‘CILEx Level 3 Diploma in Providing Legal Service’.  The Junior Paralegal will study the units while working in LDS to build their skills to support the various legal teams (Childcare, Adults, Employment & Education, Property Planning & Environment, Contracts & Procurement, Regulatory and Major Projects).   

 

LDS sits within the Central Services Directorate of North Yorkshire Council and provides a range of services to the County of North Yorkshire.  The role of the Legal Service is to support the provision by providing a comprehensive and efficient legal service to the Directorates, the Council’s Executive, full Council, Committees and Members, and external clients.

The ideal candidate will have the confidence to deal with a variety of individuals and groups, communicating positively and effectively through both verbal and written communication.  You will be supported to undertake recognised qualifications whilst gaining invaluable on-the-job experience. You will need to be a team player, reliable, adaptable, conscientious, and able to work to instructions.

 

Typical responsibilities will include:

·         Preparing and processing correspondence and documents,

·         Processing of road closure notices, press notices, land registry searches, registration of leases and land charges.

·         Ensuring an effective filing system is maintained and case management is up to date.

·         Assistance with the preparation, collation, production and timely distribution of court bundles

·         Written and telephone contact with clients, courts, suppliers, social workers, medical professionals, legal chambers, police and third parties in relation to case requirements.

·         Making arrangements for a variety of meetings

·         Drafting letters and court applications under supervision

·         Carrying out legal research

·         Occasional attendance at Court.
