The company was established in 2017 by North Yorkshire Council and the value we generate is used to support front-line Council services across North Yorkshire. Since our first highly sought-after scheme in Thorpe Willoughby, the company has gone from strength to strength, offering a range of high quality homes across North Yorkshire.
Reflected in all our developments is our attention to detail, in the design and layout of the homes, through to the quality of construction. This continues with our dedicated after-care team who are there to support customers in the months after they first move into their new home. We pride ourselves on providing a personal service to each customer.
We are seeking to appoint a new Managing Director to lead us through our next phase of growth and deliver additional social value to North Yorkshire residents.
As our new MD you will provide strategic management and leadership for Brierley Homes Limited. Acting as sector leader and expert for the company with extensive construction knowledge and experience upon which the Board can rely to guide the company, taking the correct strategic direction and decisions to ensure the company is successful.
You will be accountable for market development, commercial performance and the commercial reputation of the company. As part of a wider group of business leaders within the Brierley Group portfolio of Council owned companies you will contribute towards the Council’s long-term vision of how the Local Authority achieves and sustains its ability to meet customer needs.
You will act with the upmost integrity and transparency, building the reputation of Brierley Homes and it’s owner North Yorkshire Council. You will be highly credible owing to your successful track record in house building sector, and you will instil confidence in key stakeholders in your personal and Brierley Homes ability, that weathers governance and scrutiny.
Your Key Accountabilities include;
Business Strategy
· Identify, produce and implement the company strategy and vision, ensuring the company has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and towards which it makes consistent and timely progress.
· Ensure the company strategy aligns with the Local Authority vision for Brierley Group companies and their contribution to serving North Yorkshire.
· Design and implement business strategies, plans and procedures for the company to serve the needs of the Local Authority
· Execute long and short-term plans and directives, utilising judgement, vision, management and leadership.
· Report to the Board of Directors all matters relating to the condition of the company and all matters influencing it.
· Provide leadership in developing company and financial plans with the Board of Directors.
· Assess and manage the principal risks for the company.
· Act in good faith for the success of the company and the benefit of the Shareholder having regard to the likely consequences of any decision.
Business Development
· Define markets, competitors and how the company is to differentiate itself in a competitive marketplace.
· Target growth through extending current markets and developing new services and new markets.
· Set the business marketing strategy and drive extensive and sustainable growth.
· Raise the profile and reputation of the company.
· Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with other organisations.
· Ensure effective collaborative working with Council teams to deliver shareholder value through effective and efficient joint service improvement activities and initiatives.
Operational Delivery and Standards
· Profitably manage the delivery of the programme of works.
· Identify improvement areas and plans and implement systems to boost business effectiveness.
· Support the business unit leads and develop accounts, project team and project delivery.
· Manage quality assurance programmes.
· Engender a ‘Win – Win’ culture and approach to the working relationship with the Council.
· Be accountable to the shareholder board for performance against the company’s performance indicators.
· Ensure that standard procedures are followed when third parties are hired and ensure that the necessary administrative and legal formalities are completed.
· Ensure that management systems and governance processes are in place to mitigate risk.
Financial Management
· Drive business financial performance through a focus on effective and efficient delivery.
· Develop, deliver and maintain sound financial practices to minimise costs and maximise income in order to drive shareholder value for the Council.
· Ensure financial targets and other agreed targets are met.
· Work with the Finance Director and the Board in preparing a budget and ensure the company operates within budget guidelines.
· Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organisation to carry out its work.
· Maintain oversight of the financial performance of the company in line with strategic financial objectives.
Resource Management
· Ensure an appropriate organisational structure is in place and that there is an effective succession plan.
· Define and set the resources needed to ensure the appointment of staff to deliver the company’s workload.
· Manage team workloads in order to meet goals and deadlines.
· Foster a culture that promotes ethical practices, customer focus and encourages individual integrity and oversee compliance.
· Keep employees motivated and encourage staff development.
· Ensure appropriate training is organised to meet industry requirements.
· Maintain a climate which attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.
Customer
· Act as a chief point of contact for any external clients.
· Manage relationships with partners and customers.
· Represent Brierley Homes in a manner that portrays the company in a positive light.
Health and Safety
· Ensure the development of health and safety practices for the company and oversee compliance.
· Provide strategic leadership for the delivery of a safe and healthy working environment that conforms with statutory requirements
· Fulfil the health and safety management role as detailed in the Brierley Homes Health and Safety Policy, organisational statements, and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself, members of your team and others who may be affected by your team’s activities.
