We are looking to recruit two Planning Assistants to work within the Building Control Team. These fixed‑term roles have been created as part of an expansion of the team to meet new statutory requirements, providing additional capacity to support the delivery of the Building Safety Levy.
Our Service
North Yorkshire Council’s Planning Service plays a fundamental role in managing the natural and built environment, ensuring future development needs across the county are met to make North Yorkshire a better place to live and work. The service covers one of the largest geographical areas in the country, including national parks, areas of outstanding natural beauty, market towns and urban areas.
The Operations Team provides essential technical support across the Planning Service, including Development Management, Building Control, Policy & Place, Infrastructure and Delivery, Land Charges, Street Naming and Numbering, data management and system administration.
The role
Planning Assistants play a vital role in supporting the work of the Planning service. We are looking for someone with experience and knowledge of Planning services to work within a team providing a wide range of specialist technical services across the whole of the Planning service, to ensure efficient, effective and compliant service delivery.
The role involves working across a mix of back‑office and customer‑facing activities within a busy environment.
Duties will include:
- Registering and validation of all types of planning applications and notifications.
- Process reports, notices and decisions when issued by Officers.
- Assist the Street Naming and Numbering team
- Administration of Planning and Enforcement Appeals.
- Administration of Planning Committee process.
- Deal with enquiries by telephone, email or post in a timely manner.
- Use a Document Management System.
- Full training will be provided, usually in person at either the Easingwold or Harrogate office, therefore some travelling may be expected.
What you will bring
You should be an effective communicator, with strong IT skills, be accurate, meticulous and customer focussed. You should be able to demonstrate that you have familiarity of working in a team environment, the ability to relate well to customers at all levels and effective organisational skills and time management when working to deadlines. You will be expected to be reliable, resilient and able to work under pressure, often using your own initiative.
