Location: York

Salary: Unpaid

Hours: A full time placement of 37 hours per week for either 1 or 2 weeks, or part time (1-3 days a week) for a longer period.

Placement dates: Between 28 September - 2 October 2026

Placement suitable for: school (from Year 10 onwards), college or university students as well as adults considering career change or return to work

 

The Organisation

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was established as a new organisation in early 2024.  It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Mayor also holds responsibilities in relation to Policing, Fire and Crime. Making the most of the combined strengths of the city region and rural powerhouse, the Combined Authority is a long-term commitment to shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

The Opportunity

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is currently taking applications for work experience opportunity with Skills, Education and Employment teams. The teams’ aim is to support the residents of York and North Yorkshire to gain skills which will lead them to meaningful, sustained, and relevant employment, or enable them to progress to further learning. This is possible via a wide range of skills and employment funding that has been passed down from government, including:

·         Adult Skills Fund

·         Skills Bootcamps

·         Economic Inactivity Trailblazer

·         Connect to Work Programme

·         Skills Innovation Fund

This work experience placement will give insight into roles such as Project Managers, Contracts and Relationship Officers and Delivery Officers, undertaking tasks such as:

·         Shadowing a variety of team members across the Skills and Employment Team.

·         Learning how skills and employability programmes are designed.

·         Understanding how outcomes and impact are monitored using spreadsheets and dashboards.

·         Supporting with collaborative meetings and/or events.

·         Visiting delivery partners to monitor project delivery and performance.
