Location: York

Salary: Unpaid

Hours: A full time placement of 37 hours per week for either 1 or 2 weeks, or part time (1-3 days a week) for a longer period.

Placement dates: Between July and October 2026

Placement suitable for: school (from Year 10 onwards), college or university students as well as adults considering career change or return to work

 

The Organisation

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was established as a new organisation in early 2024.  It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Mayor also holds responsibilities in relation to Policing, Fire and Crime. Making the most of the combined strengths of the city region and rural powerhouse, the Combined Authority is a long-term commitment to shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

The Opportunity

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is currently taking applications for work experience opportunity withwith the Human Resources and Organisational Development (HR and OD) team

 

A significant part of the HR OD agenda at the Combined Authority is focused on engagement and developing our new culture.  This involves cultural change activities and supporting managers to develop their skills, confidence and handling staffing issues.

The team gives expert advice to managers and staff across the organisation. We help with:

 

·         Recruiting and developing people so they stay with us

·         Supporting employee wellbeing

·         Making sure everyone feels included and respected

·         Helping people feel involved and motivated at work

·         Giving advice on rules, policies, and employment law

 

Overall, we help the organisation work better to achieve its aims by supporting its people and managers.

Would you like to learn how Human Resources and Organisational Development (HR and OD) team helps people at work?

We are offering a work experience placement within our team. This is a great opportunity to learn how an office works and understand how we support employees and managers.

 

Examples of activities that you may undertake during your placement with us:

·                     learning about the HR and OD function’s role, day to day activities and career opportunities

·                     seeing how HR and OD help managers and employees

·                     learning about recruitment process, developing staff, our values and behaviours and employee benefits

·                     undertaking administrative tasks

·                     attending meetings where appropriate

·                     carrying out a small project related to the team’s work

 

The placement can be structured to meet your individual interests and any skills you would like to develop.

 

This opportunity will help you:
