Work Experience (Customer Service, Harrogate Police Station)
Location: York
Salary: Unpaid
Hours: A full time placement of 37 hours per week for either 1 or 2 weeks, or part time (1-3 days a week) for a longer period.
Placement dates: Between July and October 2026
Placement suitable for: college or university students as well as adults considering career change or return to work
The Organisation
The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority was established as a new organisation in early 2024. It is a public sector employer with access to powers and funding to unlock transport and housing improvements, boost skills provision and help the economy transition to net zero for York and North Yorkshire. The Opportunity
Are you looking for a valuable work experience opportunity that offers real insight into public service and policing oversight? The Customer Service Team is currently accepting applications for work experience opportunity taking place between July and October 2026.
Customer Service Team is part of the Policing, Fire and Crime Directorate (PFC). Based at the Harrogate Police Station, the team covers 3 key areas of work:
- Police and Fire & Rescue Complaints and Recognition
- Casework and Correspondence
- Scrutiny Panels
This placement is designed to give you hands-on experience and help you develop transferable skills in a professional public-sector environment. During your time with us, you may be involved in:
· Supporting live project work such as reviewing website content bringing a fresh perspective and ideas on how information is presented and accessed;
· Opportunity to conduct research into comparable organisations (e.g. other Combined Authorities, Police and Crime Commissioner/Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner offices) to understand best practice, helping you develop research, analytical and report-writing skills
· Completing a range of administrative tasks to build your understanding of the importance of effective administration and associated processes within a busy team
