Principal Officer to the Mayor
Salary: Grade M (£45, 781 - £49,764). Market supplement up to £4,000 available.
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term to May 2028
Location: York / Hybrid Working

The opportunity
The successful postholder will take responsibility for leading, managing and co-ordinating delivery of the Mayor’s priorities and initiatives, including high level programmes and projects within the Mayor’s manifesto pledges, bringing emerging issues to the Mayor’s attention, as well as commissioning work on future policy.
This is an exciting role to be at the forefront of the political agenda in North Yorkshire and you will use your extensive experience of providing policy and strategy advice on complex or sensitive issues, in a political environment at a senior level.
The role will involve working in partnership with the Mayor to provide high level advice which continually identifies opportunities and threats to ensure that strategic planning directly aligns with, and successfully delivers the objectives of the Mayor’s Manifesto pledges.
This is a challenging role, you will need to draw on your strong and effective communication skills to lead, negotiate and influence a wide range of stakeholders including those at a senior level. You will also build new partnerships with the local public sector, civil service, private sector, membership bodies and other organisations, to support the Mayor’s priorities.
In addition to the responsibilities above, you will also have line management responsibilities for a Political Advisor.
