We are excited to offer this permanent position within our Climate Change team to deliver our ambitious climate change strategy. You will be key to our performance management and data collection activities, reporting on progress towards delivery. You will particularly work with the Resources Directorate and  colleagues in Finance, Procurement, Property and Information Technology services.   You will also support businesses and  communities in the coastal areas and rural hinterland to take climate action. 

Our Service 

The Climate Change team currently includes a manager, 4 business partners and a project officer. We enable the delivery of the North Yorkshire Climate Change Strategy through both ambitions for North Yorkshire Council to become operationally net zero by 2030 and for the wider remit of York and North Yorkshire to become carbon negative by 2040.  

The role 

You will work as part of the Council’s Climate Change team supporting delivery of the Climate Change Strategy. The role is out posted to a Directorate and requires close working with service colleagues in development of service-based climate change action plans and associated delivery of those actions. You will be assisting with grant funding applications to help services deliver their climate strategic aims, proactively supporting outcomes through coordinating Directorate climate action plans, and feeding in these plans and results to the wider climate change team to help support the wider Council’s overall Climate Change Strategy. 

What you will bring 

You will have degree or graduate capability and have broad knowledge of climate change and its impact. You will have good understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation activity broadly. You will have experience of managing and advising on a climate change related project, experience of action planning delivery and experience of working across a range of service areas, engaging with service leads and managers. You will have IT skills and ability to interpret and analysis data.
