This is an exciting time to join the Combined Authority.  Since its creation in December 2023, the Authority has been working to deliver its devolved powers in relation to transport, skills and adult education budget, regeneration and housing, economic development and powers to create a Mayoral Development Corporation.  In May 2024 the Combined Authority welcomed its Mayor and incorporated new partners in the form of the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office and the Fire and Rescue Service. Plans are in place to harness huge economic opportunity for the region and to raise the living standards for communities to enable the region to make a full contribution to the UK economy.  There is a focus on delivery to put the York and North Yorkshire area on the map for regional and national success.

The Opportunity

 

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Leadership Support Team to provide support to the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA). We are looking for a well-organised and self-motivated individual to provide a wide variety of administrative/PA support. This unique position offers the opportunity to develop your knowledge across a wide range of matters and gain great insight into the services the new combined authority for York and North Yorkshire has to offer.

 

The Leadership Support Team provides vital administrative and secretariat support to the senior leaders of the organisation. This role therefore provides the opportunity for personal career progression in a dynamic and forward-thinking service. This role is to provide PA support to the Leadership Team of the Combined Authority by assisting with coordinating diaries, handling correspondence, arranging and supporting meetings, including creating agenda’s and minute taking, you will also undertake wider general administration duties as directed, providing you with the opportunity to get involved and support on wider organisational tasks.

 

The nature of this work requires a flexible approach, excellent customer service skills and a high level of confidentiality at all times. Using a wide range of IT packages, you will be able to demonstrate recent relevant experience and the ability to work on your own initiative and prioritise a diverse, but interesting workload often working to tight deadlines. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and, accuracy and attention to detail is critical. The role is a mix of hybrid working with the main office based at City of York Council West Offices, York.

 

What you will bring

·       Secretarial support including diary management, minute taking, working with complex reports and information, and dealing with competing demands from customers.

·       Experience in a similar role in a busy environment, within the Public Sector or Local Government. Previous experience of working within a political environment is desirable.

·       Good understanding of local government legal and administrative procedures, with an understanding and commitment to high quality services and customer care.

·       Experience of providing support to senior managers, with the ability to influence and negotiate with colleagues at all levels including those in senior positions.
